ASPIDISTRA |
|
| Aspidistra, a native of China, is a member of the Lilliaceae family. It's narrow glossy green leave grows from a rhizome to form leaves on a long stalk. Aspidistra is very slow growing. We always say we have a birthday party when the new leave comes up in the Spring as the plant usually only gets one new leaf per rhizome. This plant endures low light and low humidity. Aspidistra can grow outside under shade in most Southern states and does super as an indoor foliage plant with low light conditions. The flower is purple and very small at the base of the leaf and it is very rare that you see one. A very popular plant in the Victoria Era it has earned it's nickname as the cast iron or bar plant because it can survive most adverse conditions. | |
